New York Fashion Week: Recap

As New York's Fall Fashion Week 2011 comes to a close, the fashion industry takes a much needed pause before they start the whole process over again in London while the rest of us try and figure out what the hell just happened. It can be incredibly stressful to try and keep up with everything, so we're here to give you a quick synopsis of the trends we noticed this season.

1. PLAID
The "plaid-fad" seems to never truly die but it was back in a big way this season in and covered the models on the runway literally from head to toe.

(Thakoon, Thom Browne, Tory Burch)

2. PONCHOS
We're so glad that ponchos were made cool again. Time to dig them out of your grandma's closet or visit your local thrift store to pick one up for yourself.

(Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone, Band of Outsiders)

3. BRIGHTS
The colors on the runway this season are blinding but after this horrible winter a bright wake-up is welcome.

(3.1 Phillip Lim, Jill Stuart, Rag & Bone)

4. METALLICS
Not only were we blinded by color this season, but also by all things shiny.

(Calvin Klein Collection, Alexander Wang, Marc by Marc Jacobs)

5. FUR
Whether it faux or real, fur had a huge presence on the runway this season, especially in Michael Kors' show.

(Michael Kors, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta)

This list is of course only a glimpse of the fashions seen on the runway this season and we await with bated breath what is to come in the weeks to follow. Stay tuned for London!
