Sidewalk Style: Featuring Allie Frankland ('17)

Q: What inspires you when you get dressed in the morning?

A: Some days I find weird inspirations like witchcraft or 90s teen movies, but then there are those days when I wake up like ten minutes before class, and I just throw on whatever.

Q: Do you have any people who inspire your style?

A: I’m not really inspired by any person in particular. It’s mainly art pieces. I love the colors that Egon Schiele uses, Gustav Klimt too, especially early 20th century paintings and photographs I find online— stuff like that.

Q: Do you have any favorite designers?

A: My favorites change a lot based on the shows, but I’ve been watching highlights of New York Fashion Week and Jeremy Scott’s show was really amazing. I like Christopher Kane a lot too. And Alexander McQueen. I love anything with patterns or interesting textiles.

Q: Where do you like to shop?

A: I actually shop a lot on Etsy – random stores I find through that – and I rarely pay more than twenty dollars for anything. I make a lot of the skirts I wear. Beyond that, I get stuff from just random stores I wander into. It’s a big mix. I also have a lot of pieces from my grandma’s closet that I’ve just accumulated over the years.

Q: If you had to wear one brand for the rest of your life, what or who would you wear?

A: Jeremy Scott. One-hundred percent. I want everything on his website.

Q: Have you considered going into fashion as a career?

A: I could see myself running a vintage shop or some kind of consignment store on the side, but I did an internship at a fashion house in London last summer and it was much less glamorous than The Devil Wears Prada. It was just as much work, but without getting to wear the clothes or meet the cool people. I just sat in a room and boxed things up. I don’t think I could do that for thirty, forty, maybe fifty years.

Q: I love your nose piercing. What inspired you to do that?

A: My friend had just gotten her eyebrow pierced; we were talking in a group and someone else told me I had the perfect nose for a septum piercing. And then I just went out and did it.
